Paying for care

Insurance and payment

We accept out-of-network acupuncture benefits. Coverage varies a lot — worth five minutes with your insurer first.

What we accept

We accept out-of-network acupuncture benefits. Patients here have used Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna and UnitedHealthcare plans.

That does not by itself mean acupuncture is covered for you — two people with the same insurer, even the same employer, can have very different benefits. Only your own plan can tell you.

What to ask your insurer

Call the member services number on the back of your card and ask these, in this order:

  1. Does my plan cover acupuncture — and is it covered out of network?
  2. How many visits per calendar year?
  3. What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met?
  4. What percentage is reimbursed after the deductible?
  5. Do I need a referral or pre-authorisation from my physician?
  6. Are there diagnosis restrictions — for example, pain only?

Write down the date and the name of whoever you spoke to. It helps if a claim is queried later.

How payment works

Payment is taken at the visit, and you get the paperwork to submit to your insurer. Fees depend on what the appointment involves — ask when you call and we will tell you before you come.
